We could all do with saving money at the moment. Every penny really does count. The good news is, there're lots of little things you can do to start reducing your bills right away!

Switch Off Standby

Did you know that some of your electrical equipment still uses energy whilst left on standby? These are known as 'Vampire Devices', and The Energy Saving Trust estimates that they make up between 9-16% of all energy consumed in a typical home

British Gas estimate that the average household could save £147 per year just by turning off standby!

Become Energy Savvy

Here are a couple of our top tips for reducing the cost of energy...

  • Turning down the thermostat by 1 degree could save you up to £105 per year.
  • Turning off lights when they're not being used could save up to £20 per year.
  • Not over filling the kettle when boiling could save up to £11 per year - Extra tip = try measuring out the water needed with your mug ☕
  • Washing at 30 degrees just once a week could save up to £28 per year.
  • Switching from using the tumble dryer to a washing line or maiden could save up to £60 per year.
  • Reducing your time in the shower to 4 minutes could save up to £70 per year.

Cut Your Food Waste

Take some time to plan your week's meals before you go to the supermarket. Write a shopping list and stick to it.

Keep an eye on 'Use By' dates - make sure that you plan to use food while it's still in date and put the things that expire first at the front of the shelf.

Switching Banks

Can you remember the last time you reviewed your bank account? If not, it's definitely worthwhile to make sure you're getting a good service and decent benefits!

Most banks offer good incentives to switch, like £150 in cash, better interest of savings or even vouchers.

Plus the best bit... you can use the automated switching service where everything is taken care of for you! Switching services generally only takes around 7 days to get up and running.

BBE Food & Drink

After Approved Food appeared on Dragon's Den with it's proposal to sell food past it's best before date, people went mad for the bargains!

Often the best before date makes people think that food is not okay to eat after that date, which isn't the case. It's only after the use by date that it should no longer be consumed.

Take a look at Approved Foods and Cheap Food for some single and bulk item bargains, straight to your door.
